REQUIREMENTS ___________________Q

 AGE

You must have reached your seventeenth birthday to hold a Private Licence, but you may begin your training prior to these dates.  A Student Pilot Permit may be obtained at the age of 14 years.  A Student Pilot Permit must be obtained prior to the 1st solo.

 MEDICAL FITNESS

You must meet certain medical requirements.  If you are in good health things will go smoothly. Some people discover they are partially colour blind and this might restrict them to day flying only.  Your eyesight must be correctable with required lenses, and contact lenses are O.K.    The Private Licence requires a Category 3 medical every five years or every two years if you are over forty.

 KNOWLEDGE

You must demonstrate your knowledge by obtaining at least sixty percent in a DCA written examination on the subjects you will study in the Ground School classes.

 SKILL

When your training is completed, your instructor will recommend you for a flight test, during which you will demonstrate your ability to perform normal and emergency manoeuvres appropriate to the aircraft being used in the test.

PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE

The purpose of the Ground School is to gain knowledge to fly safely and prepare you for the required written tests.  

The Groundschool is designed to complement the flying training. It commences with Licensing Requirements followed by Aerodynamics/Theory of Flight and then on to Airframes and Engines/Systems and Instruments -- a student pilot must have some idea of what makes the aeroplane "tick" in order to operate it safely and efficiently.  

PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE _____Q

 This licence allows you to fly all single engine aircraft that are classified as non-high performance aircraft during daylight hours under Visual Flight Rules. The minimum training requirements are outlined below and the average student who applies himself or herself diligently can expect to obtain a license close to these minimums.  To hold a Private Pilot License you must be 17 years of age and possess a Category 1 or Category 3 Medical Licence.

 ·        60 hours Groundschool on the following subjects:

Theory of Flight    Licensing Requirements  Aerodynamics      Airframes and Engines       Systems and Flight Instruments  Air Law Meteorology   Human Factors  Pilot Decision Making  Flight Operations  Navigation   Radio and Electronic Theory

 ·        Minimum 47 hours of flight training consisting of not less than:

 A minimum of 32 hours of dual training;

(a) 3 hours to be acquired during cross country flight

(b) 5 hours instrument flying

A minimum of 15 hours of solo flight;

        (a) 5 hours to be acquired during cross country flight

        (b) cross country flight of not less than 150 nautical miles from the point of departure

MULTI ENGINE RATING

The multi engine endorsement has no specific training hours required.  The candidate must simply pass a flight test that shows their proficiency in all multi engine manoeuvres and emergency procedures.  The average candidate takes approximately 10 hours. The candidate also has to sit for a Type Technical written examination.
